For almost 40 years, Sharing Tree has been serving families in Central Oklahoma through our four programs: Christmas Connection, Crisis Connection, Community Connection, and Classroom Connection.
Christmas Connection
Many parents simply can’t afford Christmas gifts and basic winter clothing for their children, but we believe no family should be deprived of Christmas-morning memories. Our founding program provides an opportunity for parents to escape their difficult circumstances and pick out gifts and needed items for everyone in the home. We offer new toys for children, as well as clothing, shoes, coats, books and Christmas decorations for families.
Crisis Connection
When metro-area families experience a total loss due to a fire, tornado or similar disaster, we provide them with the opportunity to shop for items needed to rebuild their lives, including pots and pans, clothes, bedding, towels, and other household goods. This program helps families get back on track by relieving some of the stress and financial burden associated with their loss. Visitors have a personal shopper, and the final items are packed up and loaded for them.
Classroom Connection
Oklahoma City Public Schools requires school uniforms, yet approximately 90 percent of the district’s students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches due to family income at or below poverty level. We fill the gap by providing two uniform sets, one new and one lightly used, to students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford them. This effort ensures that students are able to remain in the classroom and earn their education.
Community Connection
This year-round program offers a dignified shopping experience for families in need, providing clothes and other necessities in a department store-like layout. Each visitor is assigned a personal shopper who helps navigate the store; once clients are finished, we pack up their items and load their cars for them – all at no cost.
